I need dome help understanding the rules for useing handguns for deer hunting.
DEER LEGAL HANDGUNS: Centerfire
handguns .357 caliber or larger, shooting straight
wall ammunition with expanding-type bullet; and
blackpowder handguns .44 caliber or larger
shooting a single projectile. Minimum barrel
length for all handguns is 4 inches. No shoulder
stock or long barrel modifications are allowed.
Only the following centerfire cartridges may be
used: .357 Magnum, .357 Maximum, .375 Win-chester,
.38 Super, .40 S&W, .401 Powermag, 10
mm Auto, .41 Remington Magnum, .41 Action Ex-press,
.44 S&W Special, .44 Remington Magnum,
.44 Automag, .444 Marlin, .445 Super Mag, .45
ACP, .45 Colt, .45 Super Mag., .45 Winchester
Magnum, .45 Silhouette, .451 Detonics, .454
Casull, .45-70 Govt., .475 Widley Magnum, .475
Linebaugh, .480 Ruger, .50 Action Express, and
.50 Linebaugh.

Can I use any .357 magnum with the right ammo? I'm not sure what is meant by a centerfire handgun.

If your gun has a 4" barrel you should be fine. The centerfire just means that the primer is in the center of the shell casing intead of like on a rimfire cartridge like a .22 or a .17cal bullet where the firing pin hits the side or rim. So as long as you are shooting a 4" barrel and the correct ammo your in.

It does not need to be a special tag. Any tag for 1st or 2nd season shot gun or late season muzzleloader(gun tag ,you can't be carring a bow tag) is good for using handgun
