I'm looking for a good starter handheld gps. Something that is not going to break the bank but is reliable. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm green to handheld gps's so I can use the advice. Also let me know if anyone has a not too out of date used one. Thanks.cw

I have a garmin 60csx and i've been very happy with it. It does really well under heavy canopy and is easy to use. I think I may have paid around 200 bucks for mine but I can't remember. There may be some deals to be had on this model...it was brand new to the market when I purchased it.

I just bought the Garmin legend HCX for under $250. It's a great handheld unit with a color screen. Very easy to use!

Blaster,

Is the legend compatible with the lakemaster chips? I've been thinking of upgrading my etrex to something that would show me contour maps.

I see Cabela's is selling the etrex I have for a hundred bucks.

Another vote for the 60csx. Works amazingly!!! It will work in my basement with full signal /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I just bought a Garmin GPSMAP 60cx has great signal, but the base map is lacking for the money that it cost.IMO

Yeah, the base map sucks. I had to buy one of those pre-loaded micro SD cards of topographical maps.
