death from above
56 years ago today it was a cold and drury August morning. Somewhere in a cabin out in the hills of Clayton county a mother was screaming and a child was born. He came out fully clothed in a flannel shirt and had a budweiser in his hand. Everyone from miles around came to see this new wonder for their own eyes. One lady in the back asked "what shall we call him" his mother smiled and replied."I will call him Turkeyriver", because he will be strong like the current, deep like the pools, swift like the rapids. Little did we know that his mother was high on PCP and painkillers when she named the boy.
By age 3, TR (as the locals called him) was working the fields and timbering the woods with his bare hands. He became a legend around the midwest by the time he was 10, and was considered a god and a myth by most around the world by age 15. He became such a master woodsman that it was nothing for him to go out any night and rope a 250" buck and bring him home to put on his mantle. He traveled the world in search of the wildest and meanest animals he could find. By the time he was 35 he had killed literally every animal in the world with his bare hands (a feat that has never been duplicated) he often chuckles when he hears the names of Chuck Adams, Jim Shockey, and Fred Bear. He makes Wilt Chamberlain look like a virgin when it comes to the amount of gorgeous woman he has entertained. The ideas for the "most interesting man in the world" Dos Equis commercials are based on his life.
Now he is in his late 50's, the twilight of his life and has settled down back where he originated in the hills of Clayton county. You can often find him out at his hand built cabin sitting on the porch drinking whiskey and watching his crops grow. I am honored to say that I have had the opportunity to get to know him and drink a few brews with him. All of us on this site should remember that the only reason we have big deer in Iowa is because TR allows them to live. He is a much gentler man now is content just watching the creatures.
He is the man the myth the legend...... Turkeyriver.
Happy birthday old man :drink2:
