Has anyone ever taken in a fawn?

I don't know if that would be legal to do or not. Would maybe have to get permission. We had a guy in our shop that was raising one.(I am sure knowing this guy he did not get permission.) It would hang out in his fenced in yard, and occasionally venture out into the fields surrounding his house.... until the yotes got it one night.

I know someone who fed it after they saw its mom get hit by a car and the fawn was in the ditch so they got permission to take it near their home and let it go... but they would set out food.. when it got a little older.. they would take it farther away from home and after a few days, it would find its way BACK home.. it was the cutest little thing in the world!!

Taken from an unofficial web page with individual state's regulations. This was Iowas

No animal taken from the wild may be kept as a pet or as breeding stock. You must have in your possession a receipt from a pet store or from a licensed game breeder showing where you purchased your animal. You may obtain a game breeder's license from the Iowa DNR by calling 515-281-8688 or by writing for an application to: Iowa DNR, License Bureau, Wallace Building, Des Moines, Iowa 50319-0034.

the way it sounds its againest the law but if this happened to me i would call the co and go from there but how could turn that cute thing down for atleast 4 to 5 years hahahahahaha

I knew of a farmer once that had found a fawn and then somehow kept it and raised it. I didn't know them personally, they were a neighbor of a friend of mine. It stayed right next to their house, as in 5-20 feet away, through that fall. I heard of it and we went over to check it out and it would let you get within about 2 feet of it and the guys kids could pet it.

It was a button buck and got a little more "wild" and aggressive as I understand it as the rut approached. I don't know what happened to it in the end. But it was a "pet" for at least 5 or 6 months.

My Dad took one home in WV some years ago. Step-mother was an animal freak(dogs, cats, spider monkey, prairie dog, and others). They tried to keep it in the house, duhhhh!!!!, you know how much even a fawn will urinate at once, lol. My Aunt had it in her yard till the following fall. It would play with the dogs, come running up to about anyone. It enjoyed the salty on your hands. Buck, jumped the fence never returned, probably shot.
