You are having the same year as I was last season. Just could not make it happen or get one close enough to kill. One thing I have learned in the past, if the same stands are not being productive, pack up and move to a new location. Even if your area was a producer last fall does not mean it will be this year. You have a good week before the shotgun season to take a monster. Get aggressive and get on top of where they are and sit tight. If your moral is getting low, whack a doe for confidence and move on. Good Luck!!!!!

Although this is my 1st year bowhunting and hav'nt nailed anything (yet) I've had many great hunts and learned alot. I don't know about anyone else but I concider it a good hunt if I see deer and a great hunt if I have deer close enough to shoot. And a successful hunt if........well you know. I don't know if it is a mistake or not but I have been moving stand locations trying to pin point where these deer are entering a field. It's seems to me they switch trails when the wind comes from a different direction but I'm having trouble figuring out where they are likely to come out when the wind is from wherever. But I guess that's one reason they always have the upper hand. One of these days I'll figure it out. In the mean time there's late season muzzleloader and hopefully one of the brute's I've seen will make a mistake..........

Moving stands can be a good thing. I took the climber in the day I shot my buck. First time I was in that area. Dad wanted me to remember that. He told me he has killed many deer the first time he has hunted a stand. He likes to move them midday and sit them that night. Good luck.

i know what your saying deadeye. i have no problem moving a satnd and sitting in it that same day. i just wonder if i'd leave a stand where it is and try it more than one or two days if i would be better off. i have a climber too but there are absolutely no trees that i can use it in around the field. problem would be solved if i had about 4 more stands to just leave.........oh well, maybe by next year i'll have a few more to my collection.

Dead Nuts, sounds to me like we're having identical years...

.

If the truth be known, like Shredder mentioned, I probaly put too much faith in stands that have been great in past years. One stand in particular is located at the top of a erosion ditch, between a couple of bedding areas. Usually a deer magnet...this year I put in over 30 hrs on that stand alone, and saw 2 does...2 yearlings & a dink

. Last week I grabbed another stand and just 'popped in' to some new and different areas and had all kinds of deer around me each hunt. I'm hoping in the 3 or 4 days I have left to hunt one of the big boys will show up...it only takes a few seconds to change the whole season
