Much from last year. Figgered he would because of the mild winter but it just becoming a common reality around here.

Was a super fun hunt today. Was in super tight cover and could only see glimpses of deer but by judging body language, it was apparent this guy was chasing off other bucks.
He finally got to 22 yards and started working a scrape. It was dead calm so I used his noise to turn and shoot.
22 yards and he made it about 40 yards. Dead center heartshot.

No, he ain't a big racked buck but I'm guessing he's a 5 year old and judging from his last 2 years, he didn't seem to be one of those bucks that would grow into anything bigger.

Fun hunt overall.20241031_175022.jpg

5 year old stud!!!! Congrats on a tank!!!! Old, perfect shot & a Frigindandy- u better be dang proud!!!!

Thanks again guys.:)
May sound weird but...
Few bucks here get big racks (score wise) anymore.
I know it sounds odd. Does to me also.

They just seem to stagnate once they hit 3.5 and that's it. (They do seem to gain some mass though)

He's been a regular here past 2 years and just didn't grow from last year. Was hoping he would.

I'm getting up in age and sitting in small treestands has been getting kinda hard on me. Especially when it gets cold.
(not far far from Canada)
From here on out, I'm going to start my hunting mid Oct and key in on those last 2 weeks.

Got several very nice young (I think) 2.5 year old 5x5s here now.
Very low hunting pressure around me and am excited to watch what they.
can become.

One thing I try to stress.
A 180" 5 year old
A 120" 5 year old
Or a 5 year old doe is still a cagey animal.

Gonna maybe take some time now and call in some coyotes.:)

Thanks again fellas.
