What should have been a great day became a sickening one. I saw shooter after shooter come in to rattling today- guys- rut is def on in southern Iowa. They were looking to fight every time I rattled. One of my hit list bucks came running in and right when I shot he ducked and I hit him high. We have him 4-5 hours and tracked for 200 yards or so and blood cleared up. My arrow was just fatty with no blood- I hope he makes it as he would be a Great Wall hanger for someone Giant 10. Bummed to say the least.

He will prolly be fine maybe even chasing a doe as we speak. May not come in to your rattle again though. Happens to the many, keep hunting him, Good luck.

I had a let down myself..
On Thursday I had the best night ,so far, this season.. I saw 4-5 bucks chasing one doe. I'm guessing she was In heat. 2 or 3 of the bucks were nice.. The one was WIDE!! The stupid wind kept making difficult to call and when they did hear it they were to focused on the doe to respond.. Plus, I was hunting across the creek and they don't usually cross it...
Anyways, I ended up rattling in.. I'd say two of the bucks that were chasing her. The one I'd probably take (he looked good when he came my direction) but he didn't take the path I wanted him to. I made adjustments with the decoy and tried to make a detour for them to take but I ended up seeing no big bucks that night of making adjustments.
It has been a very frustrating season. Weather, Winds, and Lack of big bucks have really put a damper on my hopes of filling my tag.

Yeah, when you get out past 20 yds.. You will have string duckers.. Hey, at least you know there are nice ones in the area..
