Heater body suit vs wool clothing

MN Hunter

I do a lot of late season hunting. Trying to figure out if I should buy a hbs or wool clothing. All my late season hunting is bow hunting. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Heater body suit!! It's kinda hard to get into but once u get the hang of it...it's great!! And with you bow hunting it avoids all the big heavy cloths that makes it hard to shoot your bow! I've hunted in some very cold weather and the HBS made it ALOT nicer and never got cold!! Keep it zipped up until you have to shoot and u will stay warm!

I have no experience with wool outer layers. I went with the HBS because of the idea of not being so bulky. So far it has been good but only worn it a few times and it hasn't gotten to be really cold yey. Hoping to put it to a real test this late season if I can pattern a shooter.

I go merino wool, under armour rut suit, and HBS. pretty compact and easy to move, the only complaint is carrying the HBS in.

BUT I wouldnt change it. I hate wearing a ton of layers.

Both! I don't have the HBS but probably will in the short future. I do have top of the line wool base layers and wouldn't trade them for anything. What is great about the wool is how it keeps the skin dry when sweating to the stand and it doesn't stink so im not washing it often. Those are two major wins for me.

I just ordered a military style bag for carrying my HBS in and out of the woods instead of the straps it comes with! Hopefully it works better than trying to figure out the HBS straps in the dark!

Ive never tried the HBS as I am pretty sure my clumsy self would fall out the tree. I never really have seen the need for it. The only two items I add if it gets like 20 below out is a vest and artic shield boot covers to my current set up. I have the cabelas whitetail extreme mt050 bibs and parka and find it plenty warm. I think the stand hunter extreme bibs and coat would be warmer.

This year in Iowa anyways it hasn't even gotten cold enough to wear a base layer or break out the MT050 and it is looking like it won't get cold the rest the season. I am sure Minnesota may be different though. I have hunted plenty of sub zero days but that time of year I am typically only sitting about 3 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours in the evening.

I have the HBS and for late season bow hunting it is the ticket. Don't see how anybody could have trouble with the carry straps, they are very simple. The HBS to me is very light and easy to carry and you don't have all those restricted layers when drawing your bow.

I bought some of those Stand Hunter Extreme bibs and jacket, talk about heavy! Those things were very heavy and bulky and restricted movement.

My suit is pry 8 years old and it's 2 single straps and you have to roll the suit up and then try and get the straps wrapped around it and lined up just rite in the dark... it can be tricky at times!! I know the newer straps are alot better!

The new straps still suck when it's cold and you have to use your hands and fingers to roll the suit tight and get the straps snapped. A decoy bag is about 10000 times easier and more convenient for me.

I use a couple short bungee straps to keep it rolled up. They work well but I never had an issue clipping the straps together either. I'd still use them but they managed to disappear when I let someone else use the suit.
