Help me understand this

slice and dice

Experimented with two different broadheads today. Thunderhead 125 and 100.

Held a 5 inch group right with 100 grain field points at 50 yards with Thunderhead 125's.

The 100 grain Thunderheads missed 4 inches high on some shots and 4 inches or so right on other arrows. Weird part, with these tips I could see my arrow corkscrew on the shot.

Why are the 100 grain t-heads unstable in flight and not hitting with 100 grain fieldpoints, but the 125's are dead on?

70 pounds, 29 inch DL, Radial Weave pro 300's, Blazers with helical.

Im only guessing becuase I dont know how the numbers run on teh Radial Weave arrows but IM GUESSING.

Spine is too stiff. Adding head weight weakens the spine.

Agreed, you may also drop your pull weight down a bit to get better flight, not enough spine in the arrow...

Wouldnt that be the opposite? He would need more draw weight to put more force on the arrow to get it to flex more? Im only assuming the lower the number the stiffer with the Radial Weave.

That 300 is about in the middle on their chart for me, quite a ways up to the next spine and quite a ways down to the softer shaft.

Bow is walkback tuned and bareshaft tuned. Bare shafts group 2-3 inches at 20 and hit same spot as fletched.....this all with 100 grain field points.

Arrows fly very true shooting 50 to 80 yards, no corkscrewing with 100 grain field points. That's why I'm thinking it's not spine.

Spin test is good on arrows and I used the same arrows for each broadhead.

I'm thinking the weight distribution of that 100 being more out on the blades and wind resistance is making the front of center to unstable??? The 125's fly like darts and hit where I aim.

Just have been looking for a larger fixed blade head that will fly great out of a 300+ FPS hunting rig.

Think I'm going to keep a 100 grain rage 3 blade in the quiver for field hunts on windy days along with 2, 125 Thunderheads for my thicker areas where I may have a little grass/multiflora rose to contend with.

Are the broadheads the only difference between your arrows? I've had issues where a new nock or different nock will change my arrow flight. Certain nocks seem to grip the string tighter and modify the flight path. Just a thought...

I'm shooting radial weave pros out of a 66# bow with 29" arrows. I'm shooting 85 grain montecs and they are flying great out to 60 yards (I don't practice at a farther distance than that). I did broadhead tune my bow. I'm puzzled as to why your 100 gr. heads won't fly better. Perhaps you need to broadhead tune your bow.
