Help on on Rio hunt??

Looking for info on a Rio hunt and would like to go to either Kansas or Oklahoma. Recommendations on outfitters and location would be greatly appreciated.

I can't recommend any outfitters, but I am going after a Rio on public ground this spring. Cimmaron National Grasslands in SW Kansas has 108,000 acres of public hunting ground. If I can't find a little area to myself there, I don't think I will be able to anywhere.

Robert,
There really isn't any reason for an outfitter. Do some research now and you will find a ton of public land and much of it really good for turkeys. I have hunted both in Oklahoma and Kansas on public land and had no trouble shooting a bird. The walk in areas in Kansas are very good just make sure you drive around and look at it some is just pasture that is in the program. In Okie look near the reservoirs.

Also Kansas from what I understand from talking to a biologist over there is mostly hy-brids until you get into the very western part of the state. But many of the hy-brids still have the buff-colored tip on the fans.

I have made several trips to KS and two to Okie they are both a ton of fun...

Don't be afraid to knock on a few doors either... great folks down there.

I'd agree with Limb.

Bowhunted Kansas twice and turkeys are very common in areas with woods, oaks and creek bottoms.

Their is plenty of WIHA available, Corps of Engineers Lands etc, I see no need to hire a guide unless you really don't have the time to do a liitle prep work to get ready for the hunt. Good Luck

early season public land is always a good bet, but may require a preliminary scouting trip.
and Knocking on doors is always a good bet
