Hey, just wanted to solicite a little help from the members of this board. Im giving a speech on the conservation of the Loess Hills found on the western part of this state. I'm weighing the pros and cons of approprating part of this area into a national park and ws wondering if anyone had any opinions or insight on the topic. I was also wondering who exactly the parties are whom would need to be convinced in order to make this happen. I personally don't think that a national park is possible, but I do feel some measures must be taken to preserve this area. I need to look at both sides of this issue. Any information would be much appreciated. Thankyou

Love the hills and have a couple of links that might help, atleast with some background information.

This is a pretty touchy issue with most locals as you know, I know the Loess Hills Alliance is very active in all of these talks. If you need a contact with that group just drop me an e-mail.

I have a question, can you hunt in a National Park?

If they make it a park and you can not hunt, how many acres of Iowa hunting ground would be lost. National forest might be better designation for it, open to all.

Just a thought.

TLH, thanks for the links, they've been very helpful in preparing my speech. I agree with Bugle, that this area, above all, should be kept open to public. But since the land which comprises the loess hills is 95% privately owned, I don't think a national forest or park is even a posibility. Landowners must be intelligent in the decisions they make regarding the land they have ownership, and responsibility of, otherwise the hills will become one big housing subdivision. Thanks again for the help. I give the speech wednesday, so any more insight would be much appreciated. Thanks again,

Eric
