Help with choosing calls

I'm looking to buy a couple new calls for this season. I've got my box call picked out. I'm going with the WoodWise Mystic Raspy Hen. The other call I need is a good slate. I'm not looking to give and arm and a leg for one. Just wondering which one would be the best for my money. What are your opinions? Anyone's help here would be greatly appriciated.

I have to admit I do not like any of the commercial slates, HS, Primos, etc. They just seem to make as many as they can put on the shelf, but don't seem to be that great of calls. If I were you I would go with a Woodhaven Slate or a bud and buddy custom slate

You are going to pay 40 bucks or so for them, but I gurantee that you will like them much more than a Black Widow or a lil deuce or any of the others.

I know that Scheels carry's the woodhavens, not sure about the bud and betty's if you want to check them out.

me personally, I would take the slate over glass, but that is probably because I have used them for 10 years and have gotten really use to them.

I think the slate is a little easier to call with but they can both sound tremendous. I also like the slate becaue my dad makes slate calls and if I have a problem he can swap it for me.

Andy Kaiser built this "slate type" call for me. It's glass over glass and was turned from a piece of birdseye maple. It has an incredible sound.

Andy has a website (www.kaiserkalls.com) with photos of some of the calls that he has made. Take a look if you have some time.

I have heard good things about the Kaiser calls also, that maple is beautiful on your call that would be a hard one for me to take into the woods it is so beautiful, I can't telll you how many I have left sitting by a tree, thankfully I found them all but one.
