Unless I have a buck very well patterned, I do not hit the woods really hard until Oct 20. I have killed two over during the early season one OCT 18 the other Oct 20. All of the other big ones I have shot have been Oct 28-Jan 1.

Muddy, I'll help you out.

I would say that i start to spend the most time in the timber around mid Oct.
A friend of mine takes vacation and starts hunting the first week of Nov.

Every weekend i can get, dont really get excited till the last weekend of oct, till the last day of the season!! i like the first few weeks of october to let the air out of a few old does that may screw me up later!!!

Most years I would get out on opener (Sept 15th) just to get the fix out of my system. This year I have been swamped at work so have only gotten out once(Oct 10th). The good news is that my project will be done by the 1st so then I will have a second home in my stands..

Always get out everychance I can but always take vacation during the second and third week of November. Don't see much for shooters during October hunting but still nice to get out.

I would think from here on out the bucks ought to start worken the scapes.
Found a couple decent size scraps last weekend.

i start to hunt hard october 1st a half hour before the sun comes up. the intensity isn't too major but that'll come when that first cold snap hits.

thanks blaster...i git it now.

I prefer to wait until it cools down enough where you can can hang a deer and not worry. Sometimes this is too late.

Bottom line - When I get to hunt.
