Here's why I asked the question

I asked who carries Binoculars with to the stand while bowhunting and the majority replied that you do. I do too. But a good friend doesn't carry them with anymore because it reduces his movement in the tree. Less likely to get busted. And also he says if they're out that far you can't shoot them anyway. Too me it makes good sense and I tried going without them but I sure missed them when I didn't have them. I just wanted to see what most of the other experienced bowhunters here do...

That is a vaild point however, I hunt dense cover and it is amazing how many times I have picked out antlers that I would have never know were there without my extra eyes. I could have thought it was a good time to move and got up and stretched and would have never seen the animal. I will take my chances getting caught vs not seeing an animal.

I never go hunting without binos. I have the bino harness made by Crooked Horn Outfitters, keeps them close to my chest so they don't get in my way. And they are very easy to reach for and use with minimal movement. I can't imagine anyone not carrying binos when hunting?

Sometimes identifying the sex and quality of a deer from a distance can help determine whether I want to attempt a call to bring them closer...and if so, which type of call.

I agree with NWBuck. I would never go afield without binos. Last year I spotted a buck a long ways out and didn't realize how nice the rack was until I looked through the binos. I then rattled him in and he's now in the freezer!

Without my binos I never would have known how big he truely was and lost out on a nice trophy. Whether they are around my neck or on a hook doesn't matter to me. Slow movement and a careful eye on my surroundings will prevent being busted most of the time.

Not to mention if things are going slow it is nice to have them to just watch some of the other wildlife in and around the timber.I know I have used mine on slow days to watch the turkeys which is always cool

Another use is when you hit a deer. I like to see what I can see for sign after the shot. See if the arrow is in the ground. See if I can see any blood where he was standing. Also to look around the last place you saw him to see if he is down, bedded alive yet or what. I have had multiple instances when a deer has bedded down in the distance and blend in so well you need binos to see if they are still there. I like to wait until they leave so I don't run the risk of spooking them leaving.

This has been an ongoing debate between my father and I. I won't go into the woods without binocs and he never carries them. He says "if I need them the deer is too far away to shoot anyway". But it never fails, we'll meet up after a hunt and we'll have this conversation:
See anything Dad?
>Had a few moving down the ridge.
Was it one of the big boys?
>Couldn't see.
Were they chasing, or fleeing or dogging trails?
>Couldn't tell.
Did you grunt or rattle?
>Yes, but wasn't sure if it was bucks or does.
Did they stop or show interest?
>Maybe, I couldn't see.
Dad, you should carry some binoculars.
>Why, don't have a reason to use them...

I never carry binoculars with me but I like to hunt off the ground and stalk stuff once in awhile.Binoculars just get in my way when Im crawling, sneaking through brush, or whatever the case might be.I tried some of them compact ones and wasnt really happy with them so i gave them to my kids after having about three pair that didnt work very good. And I like to try to keep track of whats going on around me.When I have had binocs in the stand with me I usually wound up staring at deer off in the distance and having deer sneak past me up close or bust me moving.

I'd about rather go without my bow than without my binoculars. I probably shoot a deer about once every 30 times out but use my binoc's 30 times each time I go. There is way to much I'd miss without them.

MOOSE-Buy your buddy a set of bino buddied from Vero-velini or Nikon--Tell HIM I said so!!!!

Binoc's are a MUST-even if we do try to limit our shots to 20 yds or less.m350 out

I use my video camera to watch deer far away. I take it with me on every hunt, so why not use it for binoculars. It has a better zoom.
