Would someone go to http://www.legis.state.ia.us/ and look at HF735 and tell me if I'm reading correctly.
1/2% of sales tax collected goes to DNR and state general fund.
Of that 1/2 % 98% goes into general fund and 2% stays with DNR to be split into 3 groups, Public Land,State Parks, and Trail system.

For every $100 million in sales tax collected, $500,000 goes into this fund of that 98% or $490,000 goes to general fund and $10,000 stays with DRN. Correct or not?

Anyone know how much sales tax state collects?

DNR cut would still be a nice chunk of change, but think how sweet a 80/20 split would be instead of a 98/2 split.
I need a lawyer and a CPA to read legislation.

what we need is for more money from hunting licenses, fines, stamps, etc. to go to the DNR, and not the general fund

As far as I can tell it hasn't been reintroduced for this session, it went to committee right before the funnel and wasn't acted on last year.

As I read it the money would have only been allowed to be used in lease agreements by the state, much like the walk in programs out west.

I personally don't like that thought, if the state starts a walk in lease program all they're doing is setting a minimum lease price for the state and leading to more and higher cost private leasing.

All License and Fee money goes into the Fish and Wildlife trust fund, a constitutionally protected fund for the fisheries, wildlife and law enforcement bureaus of the DNR only.

Fines do not go to the trust fund.
