HHA Ds5019

7pt

Member
Was thinking of going to a single pin sight. Have heard good things about the hha ds5019. Does anyone here use this sight on a Z7?

Bought a DS-5019 used from an IW member about 2 yrs ago and have it on a 08 Hoyt Vectrix. Once properly sighted in, it's a great site. Build like a tank also. My pull-up rope snapped last season when the bow was at about 18 ft and everything hit the ground pretty hard.

Maybe luck - maybe not, but it was damage free after the fall. HHA's are built pretty damn solid.

I have never shot the dial HHA. I have had a HHA slider on my last 5 bows! Love them. I get mine with the .10 pin. You may think its small but with all the fiber wrap its no problem! Right now I shoot a OL-5510.

Do you guys set it at say 25yards and leave it assuming most shots are 35yards and in? Have read this is the best method when shooting one pin for hunting. i realize alot depends on the bow and setup but on my 5 pin the 20 and 30 yd pins are pretty close together already. I have a bad habit of second guessing my yardage right before the shot. I switched to my 30yd pin this year just before the shot on a nice 10pt and sent it through no-man's land. My fault mostly for not settling the pin before punching the release. Again I know there are a million things that can go south when hunting just trying to eliminate as many as I can.

I hunt with my single pin set at about the 22 yrds mark on the dial. Anything standing at 20-25 yrds is dead as long as I do my job with the bow. Anything closer than 20 gets held low (actually try to hold low on everything) and the 22 yrd mark is usually good out to about 28-30 for my bow also. If anything, I am slightly low at 30 which yields great results in the event of a "drop" on the shot.

Past 30, I figure in most instances I will have an opportunity to move the pin slightly for the correct distance. Most of my deer have been shot under 30 anyway so I guess I figure the instances in which I will need to move the pin will be few and far between (note - I hunt timber mostly and not alot of field edge setups).

For whatever it's worth, that's my method with my single pin. I'll be interested in hearing other single pin shooters methods also.

I use the blank tapes. I start at 20 and go out as far as I can. When I set mine up I make sure that when the pin is in the highest point that it is 20yards. That way if you had to move it real fast no matter what you know that is 20 yards.

Thanks for the help guys. I thinks that's the direction I'm gonna go. Really like the idea of one pin.

I use the OL-5519 on all my compound rigs...they are great sights. I set them to 25y & leave them for hte hunting season. I'm easily on to 35y. No reason to touch the sight or pick the wrong pin in the heat of the battle. Plus, like all mentioned, they are very rugged.

I did have a dial one in the past, but went back to the slider since I like to mark my own yardages anyhow. I also change arrows enugh that I'd be messing with the tapes all the time. So, I just mark the blank white tape with pencil for my yardages.
