High Wind

The forecast is calling for high winds all weekend 25mph plus. What's everyone's setup gonna be like over the weekend. It's the rut so a guys gotta get out there. Winds are supposed to be SSE most of the weekend.

Do you look for a North facing slope and hope the deer are like us and want to be out of the wind? Will you chance a swirling wind and setup in a bottom?

Also what is your experience in high wind. Do you find the deer have a hard time smelling and hearing so they just sit tight? I don't mind a nice breeze but 20mph with 30-40mph gusts suck.

I think I might have to find a pocket on a North facing slope and see what happens. Good luck to everyone planning on hunting all weekend.

I'll be sitting in my stand on top of the ridge, windy as hell but worked last night as I had a shooter at 5 yds! Ya I couldnt get a shot off due to the position he was in and then taking off quickly after the does.

I don't think I'll shot at anything but I'll be going out for sure in like a hour.

Edit: They tend to see me walking better when it's windy, if you can hide good enough I'd try to stalk a bigger Doe/Buck in this type of wind and go about 60-70 yards down wind of them and see if they'll walk to me. This works a lot of the time for me.

I always try to have a stand setup in the bottoms of a valley for just this reason. i dont even try food plots during high wind as the deer usually show up way too late and are on super high alert. Unless the plot is somewhat protected from the wind. Swirling wind or not, during the rut, im gonna be hunting at least somewhere.
