Home Brew??

Just started looking into trail cams and while I'm looking why not home brew? Enlighten me----what do use for batteries??
I like the idea of building one yourself because when you're done you know exactly what you've got.
Thanks for the thread and all the good info and websites associated with building your own trail cam!!

Homebrews are the way to go IMO. The Sony P41 is one of the most preferred cams but the cost has gone up on them because of that very fact. The P32 is another good unit. There are several good choices from various manufacturers, the vast majority of which are purchased used and are no longer in production. I HIGHLY recommend the Snapshot Sniper control board for it's ease of use and it's features. Then you need a Pelican case to house it in, a glass circle or square to cover the shutter hole, a fresnel lens to cover the PIR sensor and either glass or a flash enhancer lens to cover the flash hole. I just use the batteries within the cam itself as power but some rig up special wiring to use extra batteries for increased life. A product called GOOP is often used to glue the lenses in place. This is just the extreme tip of the iceberg and very general info. For more stuff, here's a few sites to set you on your way:

That must be the board that they use on trailsendcams site? I noticed the one that's explained on this thread is a different brand.
I found on ebay where there's P41 used for under $100.
Something to consider, building your own. I got so confused reading reviews here and there.....mostly on Cablea's site. Everyone complaining about slow triggering and lack of flash output. Thanks for your help.
