Home Built or Custom Stands

Just curious if anyone is building their own stands? A friend of mine wanted a double for him and his kids but did not want a ladder stand. He showed me a stand that someone had made for him and it looked a little dangerous to me. I can't believe some of the contraptions people will hunt out of?

It scared me to think of him and his kids climbing up into that thing. I went back home and came up with this.

Very nice HT! Must be a good TIG welder.

All you need now is a good camo paint job and some sneaky leaves!

I've purchased several stands over the years, never made any, just don't have the time.Though I will say, the one you made looks like a quality built stand. Probably better quality than most you can purchase of the same type.Maybe you should see about a patent or sell the idea to a manufacturer?

great looking stand. I have never built my own. (not allowed to use welders, fires ect) I bought a twoman ladderstand this year just for the same reason to take my son. Yours looks real nice. Good luck this season...

Nice stand, but that would be a PAIN to try and hang in a tree

unless maybe you had a good ladder...

Actually it is not a pain at all to hang, it's rather easy. There is a reason I did not show good pics of how it is mounted.

i build my own, nothing as fancy as the one you've built, just a few pieces of wood screwed together and hung up with chains or cables. mainly i do it becuase i put off saving money for a stand until september and then find i have no money

That looks pretty good. What do you have in it & what does it weigh? Maggs

Maggs,

I got around $265 in materials. No idea how many hours. I spent a lot of time staring at a pile of aluminum before I decided on how I wanted it. I never weighed it but when I look at the specs for the materials used it comes out to a little less than 45lbs

That's not bad cost or weight wise. Unfortunately I don't have the welding skills required. I really like the entry port in the floor. I would think it would definitely take two to hang it though. Great work! Maggs

I make and by them, It all depends on if I have time to make them, all steel though... Those nice store boughten ones are real light.

Horntickler,

That looks like a great stand. Really like the "trapdoor" in the floor ... ought to make for easy entry into the stand. Guess I'm not quite sure why your friend is down on ladder stands, especially if taking a young hunter along. You'd think that he'd put ease of use and safety first and it doesn't get much easier or safer than a ladder stand.
