A friend of mine had this to say about that homemade scent spray...
I don't think he has all of his facts straight - here are my thoughts . . .
1. hydrogen peroxide - does have a short term odor eliminating effect but it has an odor and bleaches your clothing
2. Baking Soda - great for odor elimination through absorption - short term effectiveness - sounds like he is shooting from the hip with his acidic stabilization statement
3. Soaps or Surfractants - also short lived odor eliminator - I would not recommend using these as they nullify your water resisting properties of your hunting clothing and have an odor
4. I would say 95% or more of the "brand" name Scent Eliminators utilize ingredients that are sound and the average Joe cannot get his hands on them.
Most of these ingredents are still fairly short lived and can be classified as enzymes with a realitively short term effect.
Key traits of a great product are - odorless, cost effect, clean or no messy residue and most important a long term odor reduction effect.
My self I don't mind paying for something that I know works and gives me the confidence that it works. I'd just hate to be the one that found out the homemade stuff didn't work...
