It's definitely not over, but tOSU has a nice edge. If Iowa wrestles very well in the Consolation matches and can maybe pick up some bonus points they could very well take the team title. It's going to be a hard go at it though.
Scoonie,
It is not very likely. When we lost Jaybo, Charlie out of the meet then M* out of the championship bracket our chances went to slim. I am not saying it can't happen and they have performed miracles but it is pretty bleak.
I was in St. Louis a few years back when Iowa State had 3 guys wrestling in the final under Bobby Douglas. Nobody won and Iowa ending up winning the meet. We need to pull for Reider, Gomez and the kid that beat Tsirtsis. Erikson has a good match and I really think he can win it. He got chumped in his championship bracket when the ref didn't allow any back points when he took the Misouri guy down with 11 seconds left in the match. And how about the charging of 2 stalling calls against Morningstar in the third period yesterday. I don't think that ref wants Iowa to win the championship and has something against us. I thinks he needs a little review after these championships are over.
Wow, if they continue to wrestle like they are now. I agree there is now hope. I love it when they are down and they storm back. Great job Dan ERECKSON! AWESOME! Go Hawks!
Like Tom Brands said, the national championship is bitter sweet but that shows our program is no fluke. It really takes a man to come back through the consolation side to prove to himself and everyone else they've got what it takes to be a winner.
This tounament leaves alot of motivation for some guys. Being a wrestling fan I see how great the competetion is from all over the US. You want your guys to win every opportunity they have but it is still nice to see other programs have some success. It's still one of those sports that doesn't get the recognition it deserves but I believe it is getting better.
Very bitter sweet, I really feel for some of the guys. It's nice to get the team title no doubt about it. It was definitely ugly..
The nationals are in Omaha next year and I'm going to try my best to make my first trip. Iowa should be pretty strong next year also and has some great talent coming in.
I have never yelled at the TV like I did the past few days. Sure was tough to see guys lose that have wrestled way better a dozen other times than in the big tourney. Great tournament for sure and am sure glad that they pulled off an ugly title win this year.
Side note, I did throw a baby stuffed animal at that turd that did a friggin back flip during his match with Metcalf.
