How do you go about your business??

30point asked a question about having a stand stolen and someone seems to have "moved-in" to his hunting area.

His dilemna got me to thinking...For those of us not fortunate enough to own a lot of our own land,
Do you ask permission to hunt from the landowner every year, every hunting season, other...?

I only have three other small chunks besides my dad's 30 acres that I bow hunt. I have about 2000 acres of turkey land that I get permission for...but regardless I ask permission for every season. So in July or so I ask if I can bow hunt. Around Thanksgiving I ask if I can shotgun hunt. At the begining of March I start running through my checklist of ground to turkey hunt....and then the cycle pretty much starts over.

Every year I have one landowner that says, "You don't have to ask, we know you're going to hunt...AND you, your brothers, and dad are the only people we allow to hunt on our land."...but I always insist on asking before I step foot on their land, BECAUSE you never know.

I had one guy a few years back that allowed me to bow hunt, but didn't want me to shotgun hunt, which was different from the year before. Had I not asked it could have made for a confronting situtation if I would have just waltz'd in there during shotgun season.

I've had several run-in's with people who I know didn't have permission to be on the ground I hunt. Most of them say the same thing, "Well, I asked back in (insert year of choice here) and it was fine." Sure can be upsetting to have a hunt ruined...plus I know if I'm the only one, then I have the landowners support to take care of tresspassers.

I ask every yr. Every landowner gets asked, I also make sure to give them a a card of thanks along with some ham and booze at Christmas time.

I think you are right to ask every year for premission, I know the land owners appreciate it even if they tell you that you don't have to ask.

A thank you card or a christmas gift is also always a good idea to keep the landowners happy and to let them know how much it means to you to be able to hunt their land.

i ask every year. for my 11 acre chunk. no asking with public land

i did pick up some new ground under conditions of just bowhunting though!!

I ask permission every year. It's respectful and who knows, landowners can change their mind at anytime.

we have our own land, but my dad lets several people turkey, bow and early muzz hunt, it is much appreciated when the people ask every year as different people might get permission for different season or as our plans change too. i would definatly ask to hunt every year and make sure the owner know what seasons you are hunting, keeping a good relationship is key.

I help the landowner I hunt on with harvest, working cattle, fixing fence, building sheds, moving grain, field work, NH3, moving cattle, and so on for free. I guess I kinda lease it with no money exchange, and that is how he see's it also, so if he didn't want me there, I would think he would tell me when we are planting food plots and cutting shooting lanes for stands.

I ask every year and also find out if antbody else will be hunting also. One place I have hunted for 20+ years was sold to their daughter and her husband and part of the deal when they bought it was I still was allowed to hunt there.Always give cards and gifts at the end of the year.
