What range do you guys practice shooting at with a bow?I been trying to extend my range a little this year and last night tried shooting 40 yrds for the first time.It didnt go to bad i guesse, i even hit the bullseye 3 times and the majority of my shots were inside the second ring on my bag target. And after that the 20 yrd shots seemed a lot easier.I was just curious what everyone else practiced at, I dont plan on using my 40 yrd pin for deer hunting.

I practice from 5 yards all the way to 40 yards. I figure that my bow can shoot any arrow flat enough at forty yards and i can put all my arrows in a softball size area. That if there was a monster deer at forty yards i would feel comfortable enough to take the shoot. I have been really practicing the forty yard shoot a lot since i am going elk hunting in mid september. Won't be long and we will all me sitting in the stands waiting for our trophies to step in are line of fire.

I was shooting last night and was taking a few 50yd shots, I can hit about the size of a basketball at 50. But like you said when you move back to 20 to 25 it feels like a slam dunk. As far as deer hunting I draw the line at 30. I've found practicing at greater distances has made me a lot better shooter.

My range when hunting is about 30 yards, but when I practice I like to try my luck with 40 to 50 yard shot just for fun.

I practice from 10-50 yards but would not intend to shoot beyond 35-40 yards hunting. Until I shoot a lot more I think that is my ethical range.

I learned along time ago that the further you shoot the tighter your short range shots will be.

If your maximum range on a deer is 40 yards (too far under most hunting conditions) then if you practice out to 60 yards it will benefit you. If you can consistently hit a paper plate at 60 yards your 20 yard groups will be the size of a tennis ball. Slam dunk just like you guys said.

Anybody who goes out west knows that 50 yard shots are reality and therefore the practice at longer yardages is critical.

I know I need all the accuracy I can muster to overcome buck fever.
