How long to draw Zone 9?

Hey everyone,

Another NR looking to come to Iowa for some huntin' action. I am really interested in zone 9 as it is relatively close to me so I could hunt on the weekends, and I have a couple friends in Decorah who moved there from WI who say the public land is like hunting Buffalo County (don't know if I quite believe them!) But hey, it would be cheaper and more rewarding to me to shoot a good buck off public land than paying leases in Buffalo County. So how long did it take some of you NR's to draw in Zone 9? And any resident's, if you ever feel the need to shoot a big WI gobbler, let me know, I'll get you on some of the best turkey property around for a little help and information for my first trip to Iowa.

Your chances of getting a NR tag the first year are slim. Even worse if your from Wisconsin.

(just kidding). You would more than likely get a preference point for the following year. There are an allotment of NR tags for each zone. There are many public hunting area's in the NE corner and many are underhunted. Good luck

When i applied for Iowa this last season i did a rough odds estimate for each zone (with no pp points) with what information i could get. I came up with a 23% chance of drawing zone 9 with no points.
