I am, but not in Iowa. I live in Indiana and will be traveling across the line into Ohio to hunt their muzzleloader season which runs Dec. 27-30. Hopefully some unexpected severe winter weather will roll in before then.

Me for one, just got my tag today and did some fine tuning on the smokepole. I went out scouting the last few nights and the deer have really changed habits since I last hunted during bow season. Makes it real easy to find them when they're in groups of 20+ with all this snow on the ground. Good luck to all us cold weather hunters.

I'll be out there...still have some unfinished business with my bow. I not only have my anysex tag, but a anterless as well. Also have a muzzleloader tag....could be a busy late season.

Almost forgot, Ill be muzzleloading to, got my knight sighted in a couple weeks ago. Were ouutta doe tags here but I gotta finish something I started in oct to LOL

I'll be out with muzzleloader and bow. If this warm weather holds, probably try to fill the bow tag first.

On a personal note Horst, I didn't get back on the "Changes" thread, but you made a lot of good points. I also didn't mean to belittle anyone for taking a smaller buck. And the limited time also plays a big factor; I don't get out nearly as much as I'd like to.
I think part of the problem where I used to hunt is that for many years, first season was always limited to bucks only licenses. The younger guys I hunted with got in that mindset from the start and it's hard to break with tradition.
From the numbers of licenses left, the DNR needs to come up with a way to encourage more hunters to travel to southern Iowa where the deer are. Longer, more flexible seasons with less expensive licenses would be a start but I'm not sure what the real answer is.
Good luck to you on your "unfinished business!" That's a great looking deer.

I still have my any sex bow tag. I don't even go out in the late season until after Christmas. Gives them time to settle back down a bit.

Threebeards, a couple years ago 6 of us came down for the special season. We planned on hunting state ground but everyone we asked seemed happy to let us in as long as we were hunting does.We only seen one deer down there the whole 3 days but it was a lotta fun.I dont know how the hell you guys walk them ravines all day, felt like Id been mountain climbing after I got done with 3 days of pushing them.Seen more turkeys and coyotes then Ive ever seen in my life so it was well worth the trip and I got to hunt some different country.Id likr to come back down one of these years and do it again but I work construction and usually by Jan, moneys to tight to afford hotel rooms and food for any amount of time. But I dont really know why more people dont go down there and take advantage of some tags.

I have a late ML tag to try out the new Encore. I sure wish we would get some cold weather and snow. Went out tonight and all I saw were pheasants.

A group of 5 or 6 friends usually go down to southern Iowa every year for the bonus doe season. It is a lot of fun to hunt different country and it is the only party hunting I do which is a change of pace. 6 guys isnt nearly enough to tackle those big timbers down there though!
