Does anyone know of any websites that would have maps with land owners on it. They want $30.00 for new plat books. Mine is 2 yrs old and I dont really want to pay $30.00 to look at a map.
dlbmainbeam,I would do as baggin_bucks stated.I'm not sure about your area, but the courthouse has helped me with plat maps when hunting out of state in Ohio. They pulled the areas up on a screen I was interested in, and printed them for just a small printing fee.I would think they could do the same for you there.
Two years isn't that far out of date. Things/owners do change but you may want to call the listed person- either they can point you to the new owner or they may have some other ground if you strike up a conversation with them.
The land was in a trust and I think it changed hands in 2002. Im not sure who was in control of it before. Mostly I was hoping there was a website somewhere with plats. Then you could check out places all over Iowa. That would probably be a good site to start up.

Save yourself some trouble and go to the courthouse. They will print you out a detailed map of whatever section you want. I get a new plat everyear or so but the problem is there rarely correct when compared with the actual maps at the courthouse. Property lines can be tricky and a plat book is to small to be that detailed. I learned this one the hard way
go to the court house. 25 cents a copy well worth it!
vike4life is right the platt books of this county as well as Dubuque are way wrong! property that has changed hands five or more years ago is still listed under the previous owner. The courthouse will even tell you who is behind on thier taxes!
Best bet with the platt book may be to look at the residence page on the township and talk to the nearest resident. With all the six figure income folks buying land around here alot of the owners listed are absentee landloards.
