To hunt deer in any firearm season you must wear solid blaze orange.Thats what the regs say.
I have always wore it during muzzle loader season but i have a couple of fellers at work that say it dosnt apply to muzzle loaders because they are not classified as firearms under federal law.
Do you have to wear blaze orange when muzzle loader hunting?
I always figuared you do,anybody no for sure?

That is true, under fed law a muzzleloader is not classified as a firearm, but the context in which the law is written is in one of possession by convicted felons. Under fed law if you are convicted of a felony, any fed or state law with possible punishment exceeding one year, which does include some state misdemeanors, a person cannot possess guns. But, one can possess a muzzleloader. I think the state game laws are written from a safety standpoint; with the fact in mind that todays muzzleloaders can reach out and touch you. I would wear orange.

...yes, you need to wear at least a vest of solid blaze orange even during the muzzleloader seasons...

I think I would wear it just for the "safety factor" alone. I've muzzleloaded before with a orange vest on and had deer walk by me at 15 yards. It was like the world's best camo! I just don't feel safe without - no matter what the law says! Just my 2 cents!

Yes hunter orange is needed when muzzleloading. You wouldn't want some rambo to mistake you for a trophy buck so wear your orange and good luck.

when i was down for the second gun season, i saw another hunter who was hunting private ground. he was wearing an orange hat and a white jump suit.granted there was snow on the ground. common scents justs tells me to wear an orange hat as well as a orange vest. some people just lack common scents.

Well these bozos aint gonna wear it they say. Both of them say that they have a couple of vidoes of hunts here in Iowa of some big name fellers that show them hunting and taking their deer with no orange at all.I havnt seen them so i dont really know.
I have seen a known hunter cammo clothing person on tv once with a cammo orange vest on a hunt in Iowa a couple years back.It was on TNN and i told my local DNR to turn on the tv and take a look at Bills big buck.He did and said it was a nice one, about 5 seconds later he said with out me asking that Bill sould have blaze orange on.I told him thats what i thought also.Never did hear anything more about it.
Now these guys at work still said they arnt gonna wear orange untill the DNR feller tells them.
Now myself i think even if your bow hunting this time of year you sould wear some orange on the way out in the twilight zone just for your own safty or have your flash light on.
There may be some one around with a itchey trigger finger

Yes---blaze orange attire is required for both early and late muzzleloader seasons if you're gun hunting. And it means solid blaze orange not mesh blaze orange vests that I've seen some people wear (most of them were city street workers and the vests came from work). In truth I haven't issed a citation for the wearing of a mesh vest, but I've made the hunter leave the field and get one that is solid blaze orange. Solid blaze orange also means no camo blaze orange.

A blaze orange hat by itself is not legal. Years ago it was but not now. All legal attire covers the upper torso for better visibility.

What if someone is hunting in a "fenced in farm"? Do they still have to wear orange?? If not perhaps this is where the video was recorded?? Just throwing this out.

That never made sense to me, if Im sitting in a tree right now with a muzzleloader i have to wear orange. If Im in the same tree with a bow Im legal without it.Am I less likely to be shot while bowhunting? And if a guy misses a deer and hits me 15 feet up in the air should he be hunting to start with?
