Today was one fast hunt. We got to public ground at 6:30am. The plan was to go to our favorite spot at the end of the cedars. But there was a hen clucking right by the parking lot. We stalked & set up just incase there was a silent tom w/ her. It was her all by herself. So, we headed up the hill to our spot. We arrive only to discover that someone else is already there. Then we thought we would try where mom got her bird a few years ago. On the way there we heard 2 toms just going nuts at the end of the treeline ahead of us. Tough to decide if we should stay put or belly crawl to the tall grass so we could see which way they were going. As we decided they went crazy again & gobbled really loud. I said we needed to stay put because they are coming to us. So, sitting still & hiding behind a tiny tree & a metal fence post we waited. I got the video camera ready. I see this white head bobbing in the tall grass coming to us. When he pulled that trigger my mind went bananas! The video is pretty good. The bird was down at 7:19am. I'm going to do the legs, fan, beard & skull for him.
