Hunters-State at odds over deer

I think they're right to assume that hunters will begin to undermine the state's recommendations toward population goals. It definitely happened in Wisconsin, where the DNR has become a four letter word for most deer hunters. I hope Suchy's prediction is right as hunters begin to shy away from shooting does. In Wisconsin, people have been adamantly refusing to shoot does in an effort to once again salvage a respectable population. It'll happen here too.

Big difference in Wi. and Ia DNR.
Most of the DNR in Ia are trying to do what is best for hunters here. The DNR and hunters have done all that was asked of them by the Deer Task Force. All of what is happening now falls squarely on the shoulders of the Governor.

Shenanigans going on, special interests, $, etc BUT... You want the BOTTOM LINE???.....
THE LOUD VOICES OF THESE FARMERS AND AGENCIES ARE MAKING A LOT MORE NOISE THAN US HUNTERS. We might be pissed off BUT those guys are doing a heck of a lot more to voice this while too many hunters are silent and sitting on their butt. This is FACT, straight from some folks at the DNR- they are NOT hearing from hunters like they need to.

Tried to say that earlier Skip but I don't think people (hunters) are listening. They do not care until it is gone then they (hunters) will wish they would of listened to you.

In other words.....we need to stop buying so many of the doe tags.

This says it all...Taylor said he thinks it’s a shame that the governor is listening to special-interest groups rather than “some of the most highly respected deer biologists in the nation.”

I don't think it matters what you tell the DNR. From the sound of some of the interviews they agree with us. It is the Governor who won't listen. I won't be shooting any does this year during archery or shotgun season.

It's really not a surprise he's not listening to a few biologist but a listening to a bunch of voters particularly the ones with the larger voice. I understand it gets tiring making the calls and emails but we must if we want the results we expect. Politics is about numbers make sure everyone you know that has a hunting interest knows the facts and what to do to make their voice heard. Make your own emails and send them to your contact lists make sure the guys that don't have the same level of passion as most of us here understand as well,

Not buying tags could end up meaning that potentially more tags to to the non resident hunter who will come fill them. Possibly entice them with cheaper doe tags and give them a chance to earn a buck every year if they shoot say, 3 does? Not saying it will happen but anything is possible if they're wanting people to shoot more deer.

I'll buy the same amount of tags, maybe I'll fill them, maybe I won't and report that I did.
