Hunting Accidents

The Hunt Never Ends....
I just recently met a new friend whose dad was killed in a hunting accident during shotgun season. This was somewhere around 10 years ago. Have any of you been involved in a hunting accident or anything else of that nature, if so what happened?

Well this happened to a local guy few yrs. back. The story to make it short. Slug actually hits the guy in the chest must of skipped off a tree to slow down.It went through his carhartts. Man was taken to hospital pulls shirt out of his jeans slug wasn.t in him went through all of his clothing falls out of his shirt badly brused and shaken but ok true story

um well im an idiot and had a target pistol out (a .22) well i put the safty on and everything had the gun pointed down when we were checking the targets and when i turned to walk back up the hill i bumped my hand into the tripper gard and set off the gun sending a bullet into my right second toe. Did pretty good damage but was able to save the toe and all is ok jus the toe is a little bigger because of scar tissue we found out that the gun will still fire if the safty is not completely clicked down......the worst thing is that i catch a lot of crap about and when ever i hear the dont shoot your self in the foot expression....i jus know to duck cuz here come the jokes......o well atleast i didnt hunt any one else and it wasnt any worse.

wow how embarassing huh?

Pharmer, you are always have some comment to make me laugh! Huntn4life88, don't feel left out, my brother was messing around with a .357 pistol with a .38 round in it and the gun fired striking him right behind his second toe. Evidentally the same thing happen to his toe with the scar tissue because his second toe is longer now. He was lucky that there was a .38 round in the gun instead of a .357 round. He has to hear all the heckling and b.s. about shooting his own foot. Glad the outcome was not worse for either of you.

a couple of years ago I shot the seat of my truck with my muzzleloader. I was screwing in the 2nd safety on a knight wolverine and some how it went off and it just happened to be pointed at my seat. ( You should see what black powder does to the interior of your truck at point blank

Near hunting accident- I was waterfowl hunting at the Coralville Res and shot came raining down on me. One pellet hit my gun stock hard enough to leave a dent in the finish. Luckily I wasn't looking in the direction it came from.
I do know a guy who lost the sight in one eye in an almost exact setting.

Opening weekend of shotgun season, my cousin was clipped with a slug. He happened to be walking up a slight bank towards the road, and a slug had skipped off of the gravel road, buzzing across his chin. He was very fortunate to recieve nothing more than a superficial cut...but he is no longer able to grow a beard.

When I was in 7th grade(1985),I was hunting flys' with my trusted powerline 560 BB gun.Well,I was sitting on the deck when a fly landed on the top of my left foot.So I cocked the lever back not thinking I had put a BB in the chamber and was going to blow the fly off with nothing more than strictly air.I pumped it 5 times and held the barrell about 3 inches from the fly and pulled the trigger."SON OF A !@%#^!!!!"I think those were the words I mumbled.Anyhow, needless to say there was a BB in the gun and it went in at the top of my foot and down about 4" and about an inch deep.Went to the doctor and they tried one cut to get it out but it moved so they said it wouldn't hurt a thing in there and it remains with me to this day.

Set off any metal detectors going through the airport?

Just kiddin>i know how those bb's can hurt.me and a friend of mine were hunting for rabbits in a ravine and i was flushin out of the brush and he decided to shoot in the general direction of the first thing that moved. He couldn't see me and you guessed it I was the first thing that noved.he got me right above my left kidney.Needless to say I will not speak the language I used,it was pretty colorful.glad he didn't have a 22 or I probably been up a creek.Don't hunt with him anymore just the same.

This is not a "hunting" accident, but it still is scary! I,my buddy and his son (16yrs old) were at a shoot one day, We had commented a couple times that some of the shots were setup kinda hinky. Shoot , pull your arrows walk behind the target you just shot, than off to the side a few yards , and shoot back the direction you came from. So even if the group ahead of you gave the all clear they were still within sight. So the kid shoots (HIGH) the arrow bounces off the deers back ,goes up hits a limb, climbs, glances off another limb ,this time it comes straight down and hits the bottom limb on the bow of the guy who is standing at full draw ready to shoot at the next target ahead! WOW! There was mass excitement for a few seconds there! This could have been real bad also! Luckily it was'nt!

Baggin bucks shot his truck seat. I know two guys who also shot their truck. They had a .243 and thought they would shoot a crow out in a field. They stopped the vehicle and took steady aim over the hood of the vehicle. The unfortunate thing was that the scope line of sight was higher than the bore line of sight. At the shot, the bullet cut a groove across the hood of the truck. Oops.
