I saw an outdoor show on sunday and they had a drawing for 2 people to be the first in 150 years to harvest a elk in Kentucky. after introducing elk into the state 4 years ago there are now over 3000 elk in that state. anyone else hear of this ?

Yeah, believe or not KY does have a small elk herd now. They have stocked an area of Eastern KY, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation was responsible for this. I haven't been down there to see any of them, but I know they killed a couple big one's the first year. It is a very hard draw!!!! over 1 in a million.

Can you imagine the crop damage they could do to a bean field...

Would love to see them in Iowa again though... I know, I know it will never happend but it would be cool.

i am very active with the RMEF. a great organization and there has been several talks about reintroducing them, in the midwest including iowa, but who know. we need to get ten times the turnout to our banquets. for all of you high rollers it is tax deductible.

would'nt that be cool, elk in Iowa. I bet the mtn lion could really have a feast on them!

They reintroduced elk here in WI a few years ago. If I remember right there is around 100-200 animals roaming around up north. They have a plan all set up for hunting when the population reaches a certain limit. Of course it will take forever to draw a tag but ya can't win if ya don't play!!
