Hunting Logging areas

I have a spot that I have been saving for the rut and it is scheduled to be logged starting later this week. I'll be able to get in there once before they start but my ??? is, will it be worth going back on the weekend if they are logging all week???

I had talked to the logger this weekend and he said that they'll be in there for about a month. On a side note. I had called him over a month ago and told him where my stand was. He told me this weekend that he set up a treestand 150 yrds away and shot a 9pt with good mass. He just keeps kicking me when I'm down

. That's life.

I don't know about hunting it immediately after or during the logging activities.
My stand is in a section of timber that was logged during September and as late as mid-October. The deer are thick on the logging trails, I actually had a shot at one October 25.

I had logging in my area in October - I spoke to a couple of the workers while they were on a lunch break to explain where my stands were etc. They explained that the logging roads that where brushed clean of deer tracks from their work the day before were always full of tracks the following morning. Depending on when they start and end work during the day - a stand nearby could be very productive. I have only sat once in the stand near the logging (several trees surrounding my tree have been harvested) and saw 9 deer and passed on a decent 8 pointer at 12 yards.

FLETCH My stand is on a 15 year old logging road that just got "freshened up" for the new logs coming through. We'll see. I guess that's why you buy more than one treestand

Don't be afraid to hunt it like normal even if logging activity is on going.

The deer will adapt to the patterns and timing of the loggers.

I hunted my area while logging was going on most of one season. It looked like crap, and I had the loggers drive by going in and out of the area. But as soon as the loggers moved thru or quit for the day the deer rolled in, rut madness included.

Every situation is different, but it's been my experience that if you have a-lot of deer in your area, they will adapt. If your stand remains a good setup in regard to why you originally placed it, (ie, funnel, etc) I wouldn't hesitate using it. Especially during the rut. One of my favorite areas to hunt is seeing some terrible damage by people illegally riding ATV's. I was suprised to see the deer movement was acceptable the last time I hunted there.

Go for it, let us know how it goes.

I had a similar situation 2 years ago & was concerned that my hunting was doomed. They started logging in late October through mid November. They were very selective in the trees they took & did not devestate the area like I thought they might have. The deer were there every morning before they arrived & didn't go too far to bed, I think they bedded where they could watch? As soon as they left things were back to normal. I took a decent buck & my son almost got a wack at a dandy before the loggers showed up in the late morning. Be postitive & keep hunting, the rut stops for nothing!
