Hunting the rut this year

I am on vacation to hunt from november 3rd to the 11th.What does everyone think about which days are going to be best this year?

Think it depends on the area. My area of SE-IA, bucks really don't get going until second week of Nov,,been my experiences for past 7 yrs. Biggest seem to show around 10 to 15th. Not sure why. I know others say different.

I believe the best days will be the 4th through the 7th. Unless of course it is upper 70's/80's for highs then it will be the first cold front on or after the 4th. Totally depends on what property you're hunting though. Having said that, I tagged out on the 10th last year with reasonably warm temps.:way:. Mature buck sure have a way of confusing all of us that overthink things!:thrwrck:

Hot days

My cameras showed 5th-17th last year...on my farm.

With another stretch of good activity around Thanksgiving

Anywhere from the 4th till the 15th-17th or so for me.

Though, the three factors that seem to have the most influence on the amount of sightings I had were: 1.) Temperature 2.) The Moon 3.) Standing Corn 4.)Harvested Corn.

Those four factors have the most affect on my decisions of when and where I hunt.

Im going the 2nd through the 11th. They seem to lock down around the 10th. Although the 15th has been good to me in the past. Every property is different.

Last year I shoot my buck on the 19th. The two years prior (and should have been three years) I've shot my buck on the 12th. I always make it a point to hunt the 7th, 11th, and 12th. Those have been my best days overall so I'm sticking with it.

I'm going with Sept 14 for the best because it seems to be getting ready to start. Wait...you're talking deer. I'm thinking of my elk hunt next week. Nevermind...:D

The rabbits seem to be rutting pretty hard in my yard in the evenings. Thinking about setting up a ground blind for them, or do you recommend run & gun tactics?

Oct 28th - Nov 30th :way: There will be giants killed on any of these days. Alzheimers peak rut forecast is for the 1-11th this year in our area and that is usually pretty close depending on weather (if your limited to one week).

Hell I'm so excited I took of opening week and the first week in November. I never have enough vacation tho!!!!

Agreed. When I used to hunt more in east central Iowa I always felt like the sweetspot was the 1st through the 10th. Now having hunted primarily on my farm in SE Iowa for 10 years, I lean towards the 10th through the 17th. Note - I am only about 4-5 miles away from Loneranger, so we should be on the same latitude and longitude. :D

But it also seems like we have far warmer temps more often in early November than when I first started bow hunting 20+ years ago. I can remember getting cold in early November sometimes, nowadays it just doesn't seem like that happens too often.

So I guess it depends!

If its cold, and its November, you should be in a tree. Rut seems to peak earlier the further north you go, probably because its colder earlier!
