I think this is a great program. My wife works with a guy who is an anti-hunter and he isn't so hard on her now that she has told him about the program. Being a nurse, she always hears stories about people that go out and kill a deer whenever they feel "just for the meat" due to the cost of it in the store, so perhaps this program will put a stop to that, too.

We've both purchased the maximum amount of doe tags that we can. I got two last Sunday with my bow and she has two doe tags, in addition to the late season tags we are alotted. We have too many does on our property, so this program is just wonderful considering we don't have to pay the cost of processing, like we always did in the past, before giving away the extra deer, as we only keep two.

Happy doe hunting everyone!

Make sure you call the locker you plan on taking your doe to ahead of time,i know of one that is not indacated as requiring skinned and deboned, but found out they do require it.The wife works there.
The lockers arnt getting much money out of this.

If this program is Truely state funded, could somebody please explain why NORTH EAST Iowa has no participating lockers---even if I give $ to this program I have to drive a hundred plus miles to donate meat?Don't get me wrong--it is a great program, but the words "it doesnt concern me" come to mind just because of where I am located.I have no problem helping out the needy, NO Problem at all, but I cant afford to pay $26 for the liscense+$50 for prosessing and another $10 for gas ( $86)just to help out.

HUSH program is great. Now tell me how "I" can participate and help the Iowa DNR control the deer population in N.E. Iowa.I have purchased 5 deer tags for Iowa this Fall and will buy as many more as I legally can.I can not eat 5 deer, but do have homes already lined for the venison. Ethicaly and Moralily it's expected of us to harvest more does this year to ensure a well rounded deer herd in Iowa. Most hunters on this site feel the same way. The direction this post is going is another whole lengthy topic, so I'll sign off----for now!

M350 It is my understanding that in the program you don't have to pay anything at all for processing. All you have to do is fill out a little paperwork and the state will pay the locker for processing the deer. Don't think you have to pay the fifty yourself. Just my understanding of the program.

woodlot look at a map of where these lockers are located, then look north to the MN state line and follow that line East to the Mississippi River-I may live in the boondocks, but man we do have about 5,000 antlerless tags in the N.E. 4 COUNTIES AVAIL TO US.

So, kinda yes I do have to pay for the processing HERE or take quite a road trip.
