Unless the Di-cal has come way down in price, I'd highly suggest using straight mineral salt assuming that's the recipe you're inquiring about.

You and me both brother. I special ordered a bag because my Co-Op was out just figuring it'd be the old standby price. Turned out to be $40!! I wasn't going to stick them with it so I paid it. It became somewhat obvious why they had no bags in stock at the time. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Wasn't JNRBRNC supposed to be doing an antler sample
to see what the chemical composition was made of so we
would get a better idea if Di-Cal was an important ingredient or not?

Come on JNR you are slacking. Inquiring minds want to know. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I was always under the impression that the Di-Cal was used in the mix as a digestion aid for grazing. I checked into this several years back and supposedly they use it in the dairy industry as a feed additive for similar reasons. I've also found some research, most of which I felt was questionable, that suggested it can increase lactation or milk production. Could have antler benefits too, I have no idea.

Patience, Grasshoppa..... When something is free, one doesn't have much leverage in timing.

Plus, the technique I intend to use will most likely produce a ratio of 2:1 calcium to phosphorous (which is the reported ratio in scientific journals of these two elements in most bones).

I posted earlier that the di-cal can't hurt and lots of you guys spend WAY more money on foodplots (which might be a better investment when it comes to deer health/growth). Shoot, my hunting arrows are over $20 and I had a couple of those busted/lost last season. What's $40 if it adds a bunch of inches to a buck?

I had also read that di-cal was a dairy herd supplement. Lactating cattle need high amounts of calcium in their diet as there is lots of calcium in the milk. If they don't eat calcium, they can start using bone mass to put calcium in the milk, not something a diary manager would like to see.
