I hope I didn't make a mistake!!!!

I had a 150" 10 pointer broadside at 9 yards yesterday licking a branch and working a little on a scrape and I let him walk. Boy I sure hope I didn't make a mistake. He would have been by far the best deer with a bow for me. But I've seen better out there. I hope I don't end up kicking myself in the butt

I always live by the old saying don't pass a buck on the first day that you would be happy with on the last day...I am guessing you made the right decision...

The first few days of Iowa's season I would have passed myself. Keep thinking positive and be patient good things will happen. Good Luck!

Come on Moose, don't be hard on yourself. Its the begining of the season. Wait until the rut. Too early to shoot a 150". Next year a 170" 12 pointer.Make a couple mock scrapes, he'll be back checking them! The ton of fun has yet begun, wait for pre-rut!

It's always a gamble and you don't find out which one was the biggest of the season until the end of the season. Personally I video every good buck I don't shoot. That way I can enjoy looking at him over and over. Sometimes I've decided to shoot him later in the year and have done so. Some times I get him the next year and he is even bigger. Sometimes I never see that buck again. No matter how it turns out I just love being out there and matching wits with those big old bucks! I don't know if that helps any but that is how I look at it. Now I've got to run because I've cleared a few days for hunting/video/photo.

Good luck and good hunting!
Old Buck

PS Did you get him on tape?

Old Buck's post nailed it!!! I've always had a theory, "if I had to decide if I wanted him or not, then I didn't want him at all". You just know what bucks you will shoot in a heartbeat. That would have been a dandy bow buck and one you'd have been proud of. You won't kick yourself in the but, you still get to enjoy getting out. heck I'm already living vicariously through all of the other hunters now, being done is bittersweet.

I know the feeling bud. I passed on a good one the other day, but in order to get a big one, you got to pass the nice one's. It is still really early and I think we are in for a awesome season. Just think how great he'll be next year. I was able to purchase a video camera this summer and have tons of summer footage and was able to get the 140" ten point on video out of my double bull. Good luck and nail his daddy this year.

I know what you guys are saying. It is early and I should have other chances later. But he was sure hard to pass on.

Old Buck. I had to either pick up the camera or the bow, so I didn't get video. I did get video of a little dink that was there about 5 minutes before this guy

If you have to think about it, 150" or not you made the right decision. I know how Saskguy feels and the pre-ruts not on yet. Give us an update on how the sleepless nights are going then Sask.

even if you never get a shot at him again, chances are, you got closer to a great buck than many of us will. be greatfull of that. plus, if you had shot him, you would be wishing you could still be out there, hunting for a hog

i agree with everyone else. if it's not a deer's time, it's not his time. personally, i'd have a HARD time ending the season this early. sounds like you're in for a great season!

I did the same thing on monday Moose but if you nail a nice one you are done with a bow and 20 minutes later, the booner could have come by. Tough call but good call IMO

From my experience you screwed up, but it seems like a lot of you guys have way more luck than me. A 150" buck IS a hog to me. My concern would have been stopping my shakes to get the shot off, not whether a bigger one would come by. Good luck though, I hope I see you post a picture of a 170" monster later.

You must be seeing some monster bucks out there to pass up a 150

Hope you post some pics later, assuming you harvest one of them

Tough call, depends on what makes you happy. Any 150 inch buck that close to my tree is going to get an arrow 1st day or the last day. That's a nice buck anywhere. Shoot over 20 with a bow and see what you think. I can count on one hand the bucks I've seen while bow hunting go over 180 inches. Every area has different potential and every hunter must make their own decisions.

I did the same thing yesterday morning moose, so im in the same boat as you

I had a 140-145 inch 9 pointer come in for about a half hour all around, if it would have been a straight nine it wouldn't been a big deal, but this guy had huge shovels on the end of his mainbeams, with a crab claw on his left side, I have never seen shovels on a buck in the wild, sure was cool. But heck its early, we dont want to be done yet. The big boys will be out soon enough

WOW ! I don't think I could have passed, but I don't have any monsters like that on my wall....yet.

It's never a mistake to allow a nice buck like that to keep on living...if it's meant to be, you'll get your shot again, either this season or the next.

To me it'd be a treat just to watch a buck like that work a scrape up close.

Let us know if you see him again, or get any pics.
