We found this tree by a friends campsight. It would be cool to hunt out of it but I think the straps on my stands are a little short to reach all the way around.

I'd have to say it is the biggest cottonwood I have ever seen!

you could get inside of that with a chainsaw and make a super tree house/tree stand... 20 feet would seem like 5 when your in stand on a tree that big

Alaskan, everytime I look at that tree I wounder how many generations of kids like mine have come and gone and that old tree is still hanging around. Just amazing to me

That looks like a giant red wood! Is that thing in Iowa? I thought I'd seen some big ones but that is bigger than any I've seen.

Yep, sure is ironwood. That tree is about 5 miles from my house, close to the Des moines river.

I've got a place where i hunt that has a cottonwood that big. Absolutely amanzing to think that something was there when the indians walked or even before that.

Because of the size of the tree once you got your stand placed it would seem so short to the ground... optical illusion, you more than likely would shoot under the deer you were aiming for. Be sure to bring your clineometer!!

Thanks for the link 150 class. I'll have to do some measuring and see how it comes out. It said the state record is 32 feet around! Now that is one big tree!

My Son and I ran into this one while we were out Turkey Hunting. It was HUGE, biggest tree I ever ran across in Iowa.

Luvtohunt, I checked out the larger pic in the photo gallery and that is one big tree. Do you know what kind it was, I can't really tell from the pic. Usually a split trunk tree like that doesn't survive long enough to grow that big. Very cool!

That is a BIG tree.

But I doubt it is even close to the biggest in the state. They do get HUGE.

They are not very long lived. And they do grow fast. I think you would be amazed to find out how old it is. An oak that size would likley be twice as old.

Not sure what kind of tree it is, I assumed it was a Cottonwood, but not sure. The picture does not do it justice, it was HUGE!
