It's been since 8 years since I killed a turkey so when this Jake came in this morning with 3 of his buddies and stood at 15 yards I let him have it!

Textbook hunt this morning...gobbling like crazy at first light...we figured out they were on the ground and moving away on the other side of the timber we were in so we moved and got set up within about 100 yards of the last time we heard them. They continuted to gobble every 2 minutes when the roosters cackled and answered my calls only when I got real aggressive. We thought they were gay turkeys that only liked little boy birds since they would only answer the roosters!! Finally after them hanging up at what seemed no farther than 50 yards away for over an hour my buddy pulled the walking away and calling trick on them and just like that it pulled them in. At about 30 yards I saw the first one pop out..jake...second one..jake...third...jake...come on where is the TOM!!! Fourth one jake....oh well...it was so thick that I wanted them a tad closer so I let out 4 soft yelps and they all made a b line for my decoys and stood at 15 yards (yep, that's close enough!) in a line....BOOM....I forgot how much I like to see the upside down bicycle.

Nice job Ryan!
My brother-in-law lives in MN and says that turkey hunting is tough up there. Congrats on your accomplishment.

Some parts of the state are better than others from what I've heard. There are turkeys around but nothing like SE Iowa.

My wife and I had been watching a group of turkeys all winter and spring and had seen 3 toms in full strut (which is a lot around here!) multiple times since the middle of April and we'd heard that the farmer was pretty easy to get permisison from....well...we stopped to ask about 3 weeks ago and he said on normal years he would say yes, but last year the guys he let in there each shot an extra bird above the limit so this year he's not letting anyone in!!! I hate it when idiots screw it up for the rest of us.

Just this morning my wife saw those 3 again right where we'd seen them all spring.....hopefully they're there next year and we get drawn again.
