A good friend of mine asked me if I knew anything about the IllumAnight Tracking Aid? I told him I didn’t, but I might be able to find out from some of you members. So if you have one, or know someone who does, what do you think of it?

IllumAnight Tracking Aid Combo Kit.​


Kit comes with three tracking aid cartridges one practice cartridge and the IllumAnight flashlight.​


If you ever have hit your target and not found a blood trail, or followed a blood trail untill it got to dark to see. Then you know how frustrating it is when you come back in the morning and find the rain or dew has washed away the trail. Well now theres a solution. IllumAnight it is the most revolutionary tracking aid on the market. Scientifically engineered to perform at the archery level without affecting arrow flight. The Illumanator cartridge is a three piece polyriesenated plastic. It is comprised of an outer shell, inner piece, and end cap loaded with a specially designed pigment. Designed specifically for the archer in mind, Illumanight can guarantee a definite impact sight and direct line of travel on every shot.. It attaches behind the broadhead, and has no effect on arrow flight up to 40 yards. The cartridge weighs 54 grains works in rain, sleet, snow, etc... This product will stay on the ground for days. IllumAlight is a tracking aid and will not help in the harvest just tracking.​

How does IllumAnight work

The Illumanator cartridge attaches to your arrow by simply unscrewing your broadhead, sliding it on the arrow and screwing broadhead back on. At impact the cartridge separates. The outer piece slides back over your veins allowing the pigment to eject. This release of pigment coats the outside of the animal as well as enters the wound channel dumping into the body. As the animal leaves the impact sight anything it brushes against causes pigment to attach to it. As the animal begins to bleed the pigment will be present in the blood trail. The Illumalight is the key, as you approach the area in which the animal was at impact you simply turn your illumalight on and be prepared to be BLOWN AWAY.

Id be tempted, but wonder how they would affect arrow flight...Being red/green color blind maybe it wouldnt really help though? Hard to say...will be watching for any reviews on this though
 
Would be interested to hear some reviews. I'm colorblind, and have the stuff that will turn the blood blue...which has worked for me with some success (can't think of the product name at the moment).

The tracking lights have never worked for me. I'd need to know that this system changes the color of the blood. If the color stays red, I'm not interested.
 
So what happens when you don't get a pass through and the cartridge doesn't slide over your fletchings to release the pigment?

My question is how much energy does it take out of the arrow?

It has to be fairly tight on the arrow shaft to not move at the release. Then on impact it has to slide down the lenght of the arrow. Wouldn't that rob a lot of energy? Or is there something special going on that lets it slide down the arrow after impact?

Great point! Never even thought of this.
 
Let me start by saying I have not used this product but I did see it at a show and talked to one of the designers. As for it not changing the flight of the arrow the capsule was designed and tested by NASA for whatever it's worth and they say it does't affect flight. The tiny particles DO NOT do anything to make the blood itself show up any better. I forget the number of particles in each capsule but it was an extreme amount like a million or so I think. When the arrow penetrates the hide it leaves thousands of the particles on the outside and then thousands more are released inside the animal. The ones that are on the outside would stick to anything the animal brushes against and the ones on the inside would be pumped out with every drop of blood. You don't have to be able to see colors to see the particles. They had a closet set up with ground cover like you would experience in the wild with some of the particles sprinkled inside. When used with their light the particles put off a very destinctive glow that was very easily seen. Like I said I have not used this product yet but it seems to be a useful product in tracking game. Hope this input helps

Maybe the myth busters should look into it;)

I bought some of these at a show and I can tell you they DO affect arrow flight alot. Causes a lot of drag on the arrow. Arrow was 6 to 8 inches lower at 30 yards. Also had some planing issues. I wouldn't recommend the product. My two cents.
 
Or you could just practice alot and make good shots with a razor sharp broadhead and follow a good blood trail the old fashioned way. Heck make a good shot with the broadheads avaialble these days and most of the time you will watch them go down.
 
54 grains is quite a bit of weight added to the front of an arrow. If someone was close being on the light side of spine, this may put them over the edge.
