IN Archery Bird

Well, with a couple of birds under my belt in KS already this year, I decided to spend the IN turkey season chasing the birds with a bow (thinking that it would give me a little bit more time in the timber). Thursday evening I headed to my honey hole after work and was in the blind setup around 6:00. After about 25minutes of silence I hit a few soft purrs with a series of soft yelps following about 5 mins later. Shortly after I could hear loud footsteps making their way toward me in the timber. The steps were so loud I actually had myself convinced that a shroom hunter was about to appear from the south. 30 seconds later I was treated with the red head of a gobbler coming around the large timber pile 20yds in front of me. My bow was still laying on the ground and I was defintely not in any shooting position, so the scramble began. Thankfully, ol lucky (the buckwing jake) had caught the gobblers attention and allowed me to get situated in the blind. With the bird a mere 6yds I drew and settled the pin on his vitals, hit the release and the hammerhead found its mark. 5 steps later the bird took a dirt nap and my turkey season had come to a close. I was super pumped as this was only my second archery bird and the first arrow that I had sent an animals way from the new Bowtech SWAT. Bird was a two year old and went 19.5lbs, 6 7/8" beard and 1/2" spurs.

Before I packed up I called one of my good buddies to see if he was going to hunt in the morning. The weather looked good so he said he was up for it. I left the blind, chairs, etc. in place and we returned the next morning. At 7:05 we had another gobbler in our lap and Kyle made him pay. Two birds, from the same tree in less than 13 hours. We have actually whacked 4 birds in two years from this tree and thus it has earned the name the honey hole.
