I really hate to ask for help, but I'm in a bit of a pinch. I have been planing on taking my oldest son on a good out of state hunting trip ever since his stand broke as he was stepping on it a couple years ago causing him to fall 20' He suffered a burst fracture of his back. The phone call to come help he had fallen was heart breaking. He has recovered better than we could have hoped for and we applied for and drew tags to bow hunt non-resident area 8 this fall where my friend lives and who was going to help.
Well things aren't going well so far. First my friend lost one of his hunting spots do to a divorce (where he had planed on us hunting).
Then he was going to help set us up on some public land in the area. Well now My friend has injured his back and had to have surgery on it at 7:00 this morning. He feels bad about not being able to help after getting me to apply for his zone when I had access to private land in another zone. I told him my hunting trip is the last thing he needs to worry about right now and my son understands back pain.
Ok I'm rambling. The help I need is if any of you could please point me towards any good public ground I could hopefully drive up and scout for a couple days before my son and I come up the first week of Nov. I'm 9 hours away so I'm going to be pressed for time. This will probably be the only week we can come up as my son is getting married in 3 weeks and has a fairly new job with little time off.
(I know residents in Iowa don't tend to know where the nonresident zones are. zone 8 is eastern border middle 3rd of the state)
Thanks, Roddy
