Infrared aiming?

Wife picked me up a couple of the chepo's at walmart as they were on clearance.

I'm planning on a Leaf River unit next month but these were like 60 bucks and she knew i wanted some so i'm going to try them out.

The only thing i don't understand is infrared aiming?

Has a selection of yes or no, I don't know what exactly it means, or what difference having it on or off will make?

It's the moultrie gamewatcher 2.1.

I set them up in the timber with the aiming on today and will pick up cards in a few days.

I am not quite sure what you mean, but on my moultrie it had a red laser beam that you used to get a rough idea of where the picture would take. I usually set it up so it was about dead center with my belt. Not sure if that is what you are talking about or not, but you leave it off when it is actually runnning.

No that's not what this is.

In the setup of the cam it asks if you want infrared aiming on or off.

To me it seems like it's asking if i want the camera to trigger with the infrared or motion, but i didn't think these had motion detectors.. so i have no clue..

If it doesn't have laser aiming potential then you "aim" it by using the infrared aiming feature. Turn the feature on and walk out in front of the cam while watching the "Status" light. It should light up when it's detecting you. If I remember right on the Moultries this light will be just left of the infrared sensor (milky colored lens). The light seems a tad small to me so I'm not sure how well you could see it in sunny conditions but good luck. This should also give you a good idea of the range you'll get. Try it at night to get the best idea so you'll be able to see the light blink. That'll give you a good idea of your limitations on detection distance for field use. Of course, the way PIR works is that you'll get much better distance when it gets colder out. Right now, range is shorter for everyone's cams because an animals body temp is much closer to the outdoor air temp.

This thing would be much nicer with some decent instructions that explained things.

It has laser aiming, i used it to set it up, just have no clue what this infrared aiming option is for..

Thanks for the help though...

Also seems to have sequential delay of 15 seconds for pics which i can't figure out how to get turned on, as it would be much better with the 1GB memory card i have in it, than the 1 minute it's running now.

Figured it out..

The laser aim is for the traditional aiming.

The IR aiming feature you turn on, then walk around out in front of the camera, when it's picking you up the red indicator light flashes, so it basically let's ya know what areas the IR sensor is picking up in front of the camera, how far out and side to sid..
