infrared flash/game cameras

Has anyone out there tried or heard any feedback about the new digital game cameras that use an infrared flash? I read in an ad that the range was only 15 feet at night. Wonder if you would miss a bunch of pictures and how that flash works. I think Camtrakkers digital is over $1000. I want a game camera but keep holding out, don't know what kind to get of if they are worth the money...

I'm working on a homebrew digital right now. 15 feet is standard but you can add a slave flash if you want. 15 feet is not to bad though. I will probably set mine to 30 feet anyway. I figure if i get a bunck of blank night pics oh well, i'm not wasting money on film developing, besides the cam will hold around 100 pics so their is pleny of room.

Hello pfiddler,

I've got some info and reviews on the Game-Vu game camera which uses IR at

There are also some pics from the unit to see how they look.

Vman, you know you're just making us guys without a digital jealous. I gotta make me one of those too

spectr17,
They are pretty sweet. I love how I don't have to run and get some film developed. I can see it now, I'm going to have to give myself an extra 30min before I go hunting so I can look at the pics the cam took. from the last time I was their. Thats when the saying "Right stand wrong day with start to apply".

vman,
How close are you to having the digital camera up to par. If you can, bring it with you on Thursday. I'd really like to look into that. See you then.
