injured deer question

fulldraw1

New Member
saw a monster buck last night and again today, not within shooting range or i would have smoked him! he was limping really bad last night and then today when i saw him he looked as though his right rear leg was broke, possibly hit by a car i guess, my question is do i pursue him once i put the stick and string down and break out the old smoke pole. and also will he heal up and use this leg again if he does make it through the rest of the year? i didnt know if they would or could heal a broken leg.

Full, I'd chase... Due to the fact that the rack will never be the same due to the injured leg. (opposite side will be smaller)

If injured bad enough, he will probably shed soon. If you want him, get after him. How ever, they are very durable animals and he just might surprise you and survive for another year.

last night i would have thought by the way he was walking he would be easy to get the sneak on... but i was wrong, knocked an arrow and tried the walk into the wind to keep scent from him, watched him go south last night and judging by the way he moved knew he wouldnt be far, so went out this morning with my buddy tree stand hunted for a while then i just had to see if he was still south of me. sure enough we came in on him from the north and he was in the grass, 40 yards away before he got up and ran off, i tried to get on him but too much stuff in the way, so i ran behind him, got to with in 25-30 yards, but didnt think about having to stop to shot, so my plan didnt work at all! he is a big boy to but he wont move unless he is pushed.

I'm guessing he will surprise you and make it another year. If you have a chance I would shoot him though, who knows what his rack will be like next year.

I was in a tree one morning...heard the screech of tires...and the crash...then next thing I see is this 10 point limping across the field...obviously his back end was busted up. I finally shot that deer two years later out of the same little patch of woods. He was a pain to does...he could chase to no end, but couldn't mount. Anyway...they do make it...but like everyone has said...his rack was absolutely ugly...palmated...little drop tine the whole works, but was fun to know the history behind him.

If you can get 20 to 25 yards from him you should be able to kill him. Run fulldraw1 Run.. LOL You will get him stay after him. He will get stiff.

heres what you do jeff! walk south on him get behind him... i will circle around while sasquatch comes with me and we will jump him! lol... I called Sasquatch and he said he would help
