Here is the elk in southwest iowa must have escaped from a farm or something.. sure was shocked when he showed up

what county u see that elk in? Send me a PM if you like. I have 3 pictures of an elk over the last 2 weeks of august. It sure looks like the same bull but hard to tell.

Here is the only digital pic I have. The other 2 are 35mm. I too have been wondering where he came from. No farms close to here that I know of.

Interesting! My uncle showed me some video he took of a couple elk while turkey hunting on public ground up in the Yellow River area a couple years ago.. I've never heard of any elk in Iowa besides that.

Looks similar to what I experienced last year over by in Muscatine county along the cedar river. I never did find out what happened or if anyone claimed him.

I just heard the same thing right around the Dallas/Madison area. A person has 5 pictures of an elk over a salt pile. Its an average 5 x 5. They contacted local DNR official and he inspected the picture to see if it had a tag in his ear and it didn't. They are puzzled where it came from. It is right around the area I hunt. So you can't shoot it if it walks by?

Probably done at night with black helicopters and I'm certain they have tracking chips implanted in there heads. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

The elk I have on camera doesn't have any ear tags or markings either. The other 2 pictures I haven't posted are 35mm and day time and much better quality showing both sides. I'm pretty sure it is the the same elk as the one posted by jumpumndumpum, at least it sure looks very similar.

A 5x5 in dallas/madison area isn't too far off from me either. Haven't checked my cameras since the last pic I got on 8-20, maybe he's still hanging around /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

There's an Elk and other wild game ranch in Rochester by I-80. Not sure how far away from there you are. But I heard he had to turn them loose due to the flood. Not sure if it's true or not though. But they could be from there.

Since they are bull elk maybe they came from Kansas, Nebraska or they could be captive. Sometimes young bulls will go a long way away to find their own place.

yea i found out where hes from and the lady wants him shot dunno if the dnr would go for that tho and also to the guy with similar pic it was takin i n ringgold county on union ringgold lne

I haven't seen the pictures yet but the elk was spotted around Winterset. I hope to get to see the pictures someday. I know the DNR official for this area has looked at pictures. Thats the story.

The pics I have are from south of winterset just 8 miles north of union/madison line. if he's the same one he's been movin!!
