Iowa Regulations on bowsights?

Cornfed

Does anyone know for certain the regulations regarding bowsight illumination in Iowa?

I have a Spot Hogg Real Deal sight with the new fiber optic wrap. I really like this combination. This spring I purchased the small rheostat light that screws into the back of the wrap to illuminate the wrap while turkey hunting from inside a blind. Works great in a dark blind! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

However, do I need to take it off for deerhunting according to the Iowa regulations? Not a big deal if I do, the fibers grab plenty of light for legal hunting situations. Just wondering if I need to take it off or just leave it in place. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Wouldn't it be the same if you were using a scope with a lighted reticle? Or a red dot? I have a Trijicon scope that uses fiber optics for its reticle.

I think the law prohibits using light to illumiate game not your sights.

JMO.

I just read the archery regs at the Iowa DNR site and nothing is said about sight lights.

I seem to recall that P&Y prohibits entry of an animal taken with them, could be wrong.

I think you are correct on that.... in that case I will likely take it off.... it would be a real nightmare to get lucky and shoot a giant only to have the P&Y not acknowledge it due to this issue.

Yeah, wouldn't that be a bummer if P&Y didn't recognize your buck... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I have never entered any of my deer in the P&Y records... but if I got lucky and shot the world record or even the Iowa State record, I would likely feel better if the buck was recognized by the organization. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

The P&Y website lists using a bow with an electronic device attached as not being 'Fair chase'. 'Electronic' would be loose for interpretation....

Yeah, its OK to use a laser range finder as long as it is on a lanyard around your neck and not attached to the bow.
