Iowa

I tried persimmons a couple of times about 10+ years ago now. My first attempt failed as I planted the approximately 20 persimmons one weekend with the idea that I would fence them off the next weekend. In one weeks time about 1/2 of them had been dug up. Coons, skunks, dogs, coyotes??? I'll never know, but something appeared to be pretty attracted to the fresh dirt. The remaining ones kind of fried that summer when it got hot and dry.

The second time I fenced them right away, but only planted about 6 of them. They were all dead, apparently from drought, again about 3-4 months later.

If you try them...make sure they are somewhere you can water them as necessary. In my limited experience, they do not do well by themselves in dry times. Good luck!

BTW, these were all bareroot saplings from the Iowa DNR/Tree Service.

For some reason I keep getting error messages when I try to respond to PMs currently. Please see my post in the "For Sale" section.
