You've heard the old saying, "You won't shoot one at home." I agree I don't like hunting the wind, at all. I've not had much success in the wind. But, I heard several success stories of hunters scoring in the wind. Find a valley or similar structure that provides shelter from the wind. I usually hunt 20-25 feet up. After 3-4 hours of doing a reverse bear hug on the tree I get a little tired. Good Luck! Why don't you do a little field test for us. Try it and let us know the outcome!!!!

I like to stalk hunt on the windy days....especially if it rained or isn't too crunchy..... Pick a down wind starting point and work your way thru cornfields or thick wooded cover. Move 5 steps and stand for 10 minutes looking for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING that looks like a deer....Try to end your steps so your behind a tree or something to block your outline. If you hear a noise, don't wheel around, but try to identify what it was from where your at. Make your next move when the wind picks up again......

It's a ton of fun especially when you see deer and try to see how close you can get. Remember if you see one, there is probably some you can't see so extra caution when you get close....never know how many are looking at you....
I've learned more about my hunting spots when I get to stalk hunt then just plain walking thru the woods....

Oh yeah....be ready.....

Hags.....perfect description of what I love to do and have taken several bucks from the ground. You hit all the important points, especially the wet leaves and moving at a snails pace. It takes tons of patience but you guys should give it a try the next windy and rainy day you have to hunt.

Taking a buck at eye level with no blind can be very rewarding.

I wish I could say that we were all smart today and stayed out of the stand, but for myself I cannot. I hunted this morning and afternoon and came up with a whopping total of seeing one deer. It was a buck, but unfortunately his rack was about the size of my pinky fingers.
My wife thinks I've got a chemical imbalance. What kind of person would sit out in a tree stand 25 feet off the ground in rain, sleet, and 25 mph winds???????????? Only a deer hunter I guess. Hey, beats working!!!!!!

I wish I could have been out there today, I have the perfect setup for those not so calm days. I may not have seen much like Critr but at least I would not have been working........

I was out to day and arrowed my first bow buck. I saw a lot of deer today and was questioning the wind myself, but I am very glad I was out today. I will be going back out early to hopfully recovery my best buck, any take, to date

Well I did not go out, decided to study so that way I have more free time the next couple of weeks. I am hunting Thursday night here in Ia, then Fri, Sat, and Sun up in Wisconsin. Then will not miss a day here at home until I whack a good one! Stuff should be hot when I get back good luck to all.

The wind doesn't really bother me much. If you get deep in the timber the trees make a big differnce! I'm just worried about the rain this weekend!!! I have a good rain suit and all, but with 40 degree temps and rain, it's going to be really cold! Does any one know if they make water proof gloves????
