Is it legal in Iowa?

Is it legal to take a muzzelloader and bow with you to your stand if you have tags for both? There is a deer I want to kill with a bow but if he does'nt cooperate I'll use the gun.

During Late Muzzleloader you would only need a Late ML tag but could have both a bow and muzzleloader, correct?

I think that I remember some discussion about this last year and it was determined that if you are bow hunting with a bow license you can not have any kind of a firearm in your posession not a rifle, pistol, or shotgun, or muzzle loader.. That would make it illegal to have both weapons during the early ML season. As I recall the discussion also in the late ML season you could legally have both weapons if you only have a ML tag but if you also have a bow tag you are illegally in possion of a firearm. It seems like one of the COs also said if you shot a deer with your bow and taged it with your bow tag you were illegal because of the gun. You would have to use the ML tag to be legal becasue either weapon is legal for that tag.
All this is to complicated for me, but I do know that you can not use a bow to fill your early ML tag.

I believe you can hunt with a bow during early mzzleloader also if you choose to.

No, not unless you have an archery tag. You can't put an early muzzy tag on an archery buck.

Correct . Thanks for the heads up. I was under the impression you could use the lesser weapon. It clearly shows in the regs on page 23 that you cannot use the bow to take an animal during early muzzleloader then tag with a M/L tag.

Thanks again.
