when the heck are we going to shed this warm spell and get some good cold weather and some snow!! this is pretty disappointing; first December in quite a few years with no snow yet. Hopefully the last week of the season will get good and cold because the next 10-days do not look promising

Although its not ideal conditions for the late season hunter, it is good for wildlife.

Yep I can't think of any of our wild life that can afford much of a winter kill. Deer, pheasant, quail, turkey, ect.ect.ect.

They could all use a nice mild winter. Sooo could my heat bill :)

I loved hunting the cold and deep snow we have had the last few lateseasons, but I sure get sick of moving snow and constantly feeding roundbales of hay to my horses when I could be hunting. And hopefully the better bucks wont drop so early this year with milder weather. Maybe my standing corn will last thru march. I would much rather have this than old crunchy snow.

I sat tonight. I think I dressed warmer during October than today. Actually pretty good movement, just nothing mature. I'm ready for some cold air.

I agree bring on the cold and a good blanket of snow. NOT gonna happen i dont think. So I figured for where I hunt there are several days that have at least a
10degree drop in temps during the day from one day to the next with a few good cold like in teens during early morning hours. So hell who knows. It might be 65 one day in January and that evening you kill your #1 on your hitlist. The one you worked so hard for. Okay just my opinion. Lol

Good for wildlife,,heat bills, driving,,even biking! Bad forkilling Insects,Ice fishing,Sking,Snow boarding, any of which I don't do.Lack of moisture, not good for drought in many areas.Even fruit trees need certain amount of cold to stay healthy. When weather is stormy, like last few, reports every week on how much $$$ being spent on Salt and road clearing. They must be saving alot of money this winter? But never hear a word!

Yeah... personally I'm happy to be seeing this for a change. This is my 5th winter in Iowa and the first 4 have been the worst I have seen ( and I spent the first 7 years of my life in the U.P) Not sure why everyone thinks that you need -20 and 4' of snow to have good movement this time of year. If any of you guys have been hunting or scouting this week, you will see that the deer are moving and feeding hard the last 3 days. Sure they are easier to pattern with conditions like that, but with a little effort it's still relatively easy to get on one now. I think alot of guys just aren't used to having to work for one this time of year. May not be as easy as just walking out and sitting in a blind on a food source, but the opportunities are still there. :way:

It wouldn't hurt my feelings if stayed dry and warm right into Spring!

After having a great year so far it won't hurt me a bit to enjoy
this weather a few weeks longer.

I don't know if I agree with Dedgeez comment on having to work for it more with snow though.

With 3' of snow the last 4 years, walking 1/2 mile to the stand in snowshoes, HBS and LW is not work? I have not even mentioned dragging the deer out. :thrwrck::D
Take it or leave it we have no say so I will just enjoy.

thats cuz you're old.....

I wasn't going to go there :D

Risto,

I guess by saying that some don't want to work for a deer, I wasn't speaking literally. I just meant the extra hours and miles of scouting, hanging new stands if need be, finding new properties to hunt, etc. I agree that it is work to trudge through the snow and drag them out if you do kill one. When there isn't the deep snow and cold temps, it's harder to pinpoint a mature buck and may take some extra effort/time.

Dedgeez,
I knew what you were talking about. That was why I put the smily face there. Those that put the time in regardless of conditions should be, but not always kindly rewarded. I have only late muzzied the last four or five really crappy years. No snow is actually a lot easier IMO.

As far as Thomas I always wait for him to pig pile on. I may be getting old but could still run a marathon if I had to. You entering with me Tommy Boy. ;)

Maybe the Nathans hot dog eating contest, but I doubt you'll see him in any track and field events any time soon! :D

Sorry Thomas, I know I promised you I wouldn't make any more jokes about your weight. Don't be gettin' all sensitive on us now.
